The legal immigration process is long, expensive, excruciating, and often overwhelming. For those with extenuating circumstances on top of the baseline battle, it can seem insurmountable. While it is not a legally required addition, including a mental health evaluation when presenting a case has been shown to be highly effective. Enso Counseling & Wellness provides mental health evaluations in support of certain immigration-related legal processes. These evaluations are conducted with care, professionalism, and attention to clinical and ethical standards.
Stacy's process is extensive and involves two hour-long sessions with the client and a thorough, trauma-informed 10+ page report. With this approach, the assessment is tailored to the particular needs of each case, including:
Asylum Cases -
Asylum evaluations assess the psychological impact of past persecution, trauma, or fear of future harm related to protected grounds. These evaluations may document symptoms consistent with trauma, anxiety, depression, or other mental health conditions.
Extreme Hardship Cases -
These evaluations may be requested to document the emotional and psychological impact that separation, relocation, or family disruption would have on a qualifying U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
Evaluations focus on mental health symptoms, functional impairment, and the relational and emotional consequences of hardship within the context of immigration proceedings.
VAWA Cases -
These evaluations support individuals who have experienced abuse by a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident spouse or family member. Evaluations focus on emotional, psychological, and relational effects of abuse and trauma.
U-Visas/T-Visas -
U Visa evaluations assess the mental health impact of being a victim of certain qualifying crimes and may document trauma-related symptoms and functional impairment resulting from the experience.
We recognize that immigration-related evaluations often take place during periods of stress, uncertainty, or fear. Our clinicians approach this work with cultural humility, trauma-informed care, and an awareness of the systemic and social factors that can affect mental health. At the same time, Enso clinicians do not guarantee specific legal outcomes, diagnoses, or determinations, and evaluations are not advocacy documents.
Immigration evaluations are provided based on clinical appropriateness, availability, and scope of practice. They do not replace ongoing mental health treatment, though clients may choose to pursue psychotherapy separately.
If you are unsure whether an immigration mental health evaluation is appropriate for your situation, we invite you to contact us to discuss next steps.
Evaluation sessions are able to be held in person or via videoconference. For clients’ convenience, Enso Counseling & Wellness, LLC accepts credit cards, provide payment plans, and is able to connect with interpreters. Evaluations are guaranteed within two weeks of the second session, with expedited turnaround available for additional cost.
Immigration evaluations are independent clinical assessments. Completion of an evaluation does not guarantee legal outcomes, diagnoses, or approval by immigration authorities.
